ANYWHOOZLEBEES... I moved into this apartment with my ex. And now that he's gone, I'm having a really hard time getting past the fact that this was our place and now its my place. I need to "de-John" my apartment and I'm not quite sure how to go about doing this. When my sister and her boyfriend broke up, she re-painted everything and really transformed her house. I, on the other hand, live in an apartment where I can't re-carpet, re-paint, or any of that. My options are limited to the following:
- Re-arranging furniture
- Moving into the other bedroom
- Replacing furniture, accessories, etc.
The only problem with option #3 is that I'm a poor ex-student (seriously, I graduated 2 weeks ago). I'm working on getting my first grown-up job but at the moment, HOWEVER, I'm still a part-time sales associate...BUT!!! I'm a part-time sales associate at a home interior store SO, I get a sweet discount.
Any thoughts on revamping my place? Someone, anyone?

wow. i wish i could get a 2 br place for $600!!!
i think an easy way to change things up might be to get some new linens and towels.
definitely play around with moving the furniture. i'd probably clean the hell out of the place, but that's more like a psychological thing. another thing you could try is going to a michaels (arts and crafts place) or a yardage town, get some fabrics to play around with to make new pillow cases (if you have access to a sewing machine), drapes, throws etc. or just get some new pillows for the couch, or a couch cover. i'm sure you'll find plenty of inspiration at your work that you could knock off. maybe they even have some old fabric headers that are big enough to use that they wouldn't mind giving to you? otherwise that stuff just gets tossed.
for the kitchen/dining area get some new table center pieces like candle sets or what not. maybe an area rug? some new framed pictures to put on the walls in the bathroom/hallway?
there are cheap ways to do it, sometimes going to discount places like ROSS or TJ Maxx in the home department you can find some good deals and inspiration :)
i find it hard to believe you can't strike a deal with your landlord to paint your walls so long as you paint the back to the original color before your lease ends. maybe it's worth looking into?
